Many of us enjoy hunting and fishing in solitude. It also occurred to me and many others, that sharing might also be a good thing. Personally, I know of many good open and most of the time free areas to hunt. I would be willing to bet you do too !
Years ago, when I was in the US Army i spent a good year in Texas. Besides the soldiers from all over the United States, I met some wonderful locals. Back then you could walk into a hardware store, pawn shop and even some gas stations sold guns and ammo. (Now I'am dating myself!) Well, I was fortunate enough to meet a local who loved to hunt. He and some of his friends were all to happy to include me in their adventures( which some times included warm wine and hot peppers - (but that's a storyline for another day!) We would go rabbit hunting, now in New York we hunt them by stalking and dogging them out of cover mostly. I quickly learned "Jack" Rabbits were found in the thousands of miles of flatlands all over Texas. We hunted them by fanning out and walking slow - when one flushes, you call it. By that I mean you yell out something like, "My shot" or if its crossing into someone else's shot lane - you can alert that person or just hold back and let them have their shot. Sounds sort of easy - well I forgot to mention these rabbits run like the wind. They are fast and rarely run a straight line, they bob,weave and jump at will. It was truly fast heart racing fun and darn good eating after a long day a field. Over the years I and others from the military kept in touch. We share hunting stories and current events and some of us actually plan vacations with one another. Once in a while we even hunt together - its great fun.
